A foodies guide to Hudson Valley Sunday Brunch
Hudson Valley, NY - The most relaxing meal on the menu just has to be brunch, a midday, easygoing time with a wide variety of dishes ranging from breakfast fare to luncheon favorites. It's a chance to catch up with friends and still have enough time left in the afternoon to visit your favorite Hudson Valley museum or gallery. Numerous restaurants in the region offer tasty options for this two-in-one meal. Here are a few of our favorites.
A scenic drive up to Overlook Lodge at Bear Mountain Inn (link) reveals beautiful views high above the Hudson River. The inn is a sentimental favorite for brunch, a long established tradition of classic entrees and stations with delicious choices. After eating, visit the carousel and zoo to walk off this excellent repast. A short distance away, Equus offers a Sunday Champagne Brunch fit for royalty at Castle on the Hudson in Tarrytown, (link) a beautiful century-old mansion. Brunch in this five-star restaurant is enjoyed in the Garden Room, a stunning setting offering exquisite views of the Castle's gardens, Hudson River and Manhattan skyline.
A relaxing ride along 9W in Orange County, NY will lead you to waterfront dining and a lavish Brunch at Torches On The Hudson (link). Enjoy beautiful Hudson River views while dining, and then take a Hudson River cruise on the River Rose (link) or just enjoy a relaxing stroll along scenic Front Street.
A ride up to the charming college town of New Paltz makes a fabulous day trip where you can enjoy breakfast at Main Street Bistro (link), one of the most popular restaurants in Town, lots of fun shopping and local activities. (link)
Overlooking the Rondout Creek in Kingston's historic waterfront district, Ship to Shore (link) has the look and feel of an old New York Steakhouse. From the highly polished wood bar and gleaming wood floors, to the dimly lit corners perfect for lingering over brunch, you'll savor the cinnamon apple pancakes with a lovely cup of French press coffee, or maybe a spinach salad topped with locally raised organic beef.
More ambience can be found at The Terrace Club (link) in Mahopac. Modeled after the supper clubs of the 1940's, the dining room overlooks beautiful Lake Mahopac. The popcorn and brown craft paper on each table are playful aspects under the dark wood and crystal chandeliers where you can enjoy your asparagus and goat cheese omelet, or thick French toast with fresh strawberries.
That covers brunch, but there's more. Check out the restaurant videos on our Hudson Valley Foodie Network! Link
